As internet is boosting like a wild fire, it has become necessity to produce quality content to attract users. As far as we produce quality content for our websites/blogs users intent to visit again and again. But did you know some small mistakes can hurt you in big way?
Here is how Misspellings can hurt you:
What are Misspellings?
Misspellings are nothing but imperfect/incorrect version of spellings of the words. Many times we write blog posts/articles in hurry and don’t care about spellings without knowing how actually it can hurt us.
Example: “You will receive tons of treffic using my system.”
How Misspellings can hurt me?
Yesterday I was browsing a website which was selling SEO tutorials, as I went down reading what that website got to offer, I found this sentence on that website: “This ebook includes all information about search engines and their rnaking factors”. A guy like me will never buy this book from an author who can’t spell most important term in his niche, will you? So I closed that window and got back to my work. But wait, let us think about what would have happen, Did that guy was really not knowing how to spell ‘Ranking’? I don’t think so. Then what made me close the window?
The thing which made me close the window was lack of professionalism that guy had. Is that it? Only lack of professionalism is the reason? NO there are some more, let us list down all possible things which might make user feel insecure due to misspellings. So here are they:
- Lack of Professionalism: This may be primary factor to lose your costumers/users as they start thinking owner/writer is not professional, so how can be the other content on this website?
- Lack of importance given: About 80% misspelled words are misspelled only because writer has written them in hurry or given least importance, which I call ‘Careless Writing’. It is obvious if someone immediately closes your website when they found misspellings because they think writer/owner haven’t gave any importance to this page, so why should I?
- Noob writer: Let us go back to that ‘SEO Tutorial’ page as I said that writer would have known spelling of ‘Ranking’ but can I be 100% sure? No, so that let’s user think, either writer is less educated or do not have good control over his English, so why should I read his content? Who wants be known as a Noob or Less Educated even though they are not?
- Spam Possibility: Some readers might also think the content they are reading is made for search engines and not for them. They feel this is nasty trick to attract traffic from search engines using misspelled version of a particular keyword.
So misspellings can hurt your conversion rate, customer satisfaction rate and can also hurt your bounce rate. Also it can damage your reputation for getting known as an unprofessional person.
How can I stop misspelling?
There are plenty of tools which detect misspellings. The best tool ever created is Microsoft Word, I recommend this tool to everyone for their writing task, Microsoft Word not only detects misspellings but it can detect some grammar mistakes which you may make during writing without knowing. If you have Mozilla Firefox as your browser then it automatically detects misspellings while you are writing anything on the web (email, forum post, blog post etc). So I also recommend Mozilla Firefox for surfing the web. Also whenever you post something on your website, read it twice. Yes twice, because some misspellings are not easy to detect (only if you haven’t use Microsoft Word while writing). Also many sites have started including Spell-Check from where you can check spelling corrections. If you are using Wordpress as your blogging platform, you can find spell-check there as well.
